How to boost a naturally aspirated vehicle

As you know, boosting a turbocharged engine is different from boosting a naturally aspirated or aspirated engine. In fact, turbocharged engines are more versatile to boost. However, if your vehicle has a naturally aspirated engine, don’t worry because it is also possible to improve its power.

  • The exhaust system: One of the most common ways to boost naturally aspirated engine is to extend a new exhaust line.

  • Modify the timing diagram: Here we get into the complex matter of camshafts. The car has four strokes: intake, compression, expansion and exhaust. Depending on the degree to which these strokes are crossed we can boost the naturally aspirated engine, either by adding adjustable pulleys or by incorporating camshafts designed specifically for the engine of our car.
  • Reinforce the connecting rods and replace the pistons with high compression ones: To enhance a naturally aspirated engine we can make the connecting rods lighter without losing rigidity by manufacturing them with a T section, it will support more compression if we modify the explosion chamber.
  • Improve the ignition system: by installing spark plugs with an appropriate thermal rating and high-performance spark plug wires.
  • Changing the location of the intake temperature sensor: in this way we confuse the control unit to improve performance. Every 10 degrees of temperature that we lower in the intake we achieve 1% atmospheric engine power. Of course, this will have to be accompanied by some adjustments in the ECU of the car.
