What is a DTC code?

What is a DTC code? It is a trouble code stored in the vehicle’s fault memory. When scanning the Engine Control Module (ECM), if the vehicle fails, it will emit a code.

These codes are called DTCs (short for Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

  • P: power train (power train): fault codes beginning with the letter ‘P’ imply that the fault comes from the power train, i.e. the transmission or the engine.
  • B = Body: when the code begins with the letter ‘B’, it means that the fault is in the body of the vehicle.
  • U: Network: if the code has a ‘U’ at the beginning, the fault is related to the data transmission system between the different modules found in the vehicle. This can be dangerous since, with the malfunction of one module, an entire system can disappear from the diagnostic system. In that case, the remaining functional modules causing this type of failure.
  • C: Chassis: now, if it is a ‘C’, it implies that the fault is in the chassis, such as air bags, brakes, etc.

From ReproRACE we recommend you to diagnose your vehicle before any perception of failure or light on the instrument panel. Do not put your safety at risk.
